Breast Oncology

Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in women, and the second main cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. We consider every woman diagnosed with breast cancer to be a unique individual who deserves a carefully thought-out, personalized treatment plan offering advanced care. With this objective each case is being discussed in detail in tumor board for better outcomes. To provide the best treatment options to meet each patient’s goals, our specialists work as a united team, carefully evaluating patient and the specifics of breast cancer.

Our specialists are experts in breast cancer care and research, providing patients the latest and the most effective treatments with the greatest chance of cure. Our center is one of the few centers in the world providing latest cutting edge diagnostic technologies and targeted treatments, minimal invasive surgery, molecular pathology and more-effective chemotherapies, radiotherapy and prevention.

Breast cancer is a problem caused by malignant cell growth originating from breast tissue, most likely from the milk ducts or the lobules of the breast. It generally occurs in women, although in rare cases, it can be found in men as well. Breast cancer is the second most lethal cancer in women, right after lung cancer. It is estimated that 1 out of 100 women are affected by this disease.

Thoracic Oncology

Thoracic Oncology

The Department of thoracic oncology primarily treats patients with all thoracic malignancies such as tumours of the lung, oesophagus, mediastinum and chest wall. It also serves patients with pulmonary metastases from other cancers. Most patients require multidisciplinary treatment. Based on the latest available evidence, the patient is offered surgery (including minimal invasive surgery to improve operative outcomes) or a combination of chemotherapy/radiation therapy and surgery. In the near future, patients will also be able to participate in clinical trials.

Our thoracic surgeons offer video-assisted thorascopic surgery which is a minimally invasive approach. Our multifaceted team includes thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, nurses, and social workers who meet regularly to review cases and provide opinions from their area of expertise. These dedicated specialists are regional leaders who are an integral part in developing less invasive surgical techniques that quicken recovery and provide options that are not readily available locally.

The goal of the Thoracic Oncology departnent is to treat most patients on a clinical trial or through an approach that represents the forefront of clinical care. Thoracic Oncology focuses the majority of their clinical research on areas of thoracic oncology where the standard treatment is poor and where the optimal treatment approach remains unclear. In diagnoses where standard treatment is a well-accepted approach, patients are provided access to cutting-edge approaches to deliver the treatment, including minimally invasive surgery and highly technically advanced radiation therapy treatment planning.

Gastrointestinal cancer

Gastrointestinal cancer is generally a group of cancers affecting organs like stomach, esophagus, gall bladder, bowels, rectum, anus, liver, and pancreas. The cancer can form a mass or ulcer within the stomach or it can spread diffusely throughout the entire wall of the stomach. Stomach cancer is also called gastric cancer. Stomach cancer is commonly found in people aged between 50 and 70 years of age. It is more common in men. Treatment options that are available for treating gastrointestinal cancers are Surgery, Radiotherapy, and Chemotherapy.

Our Gastrointestinal Oncology department is a team of highly specialized medical oncologists, scientists, physician assistants and research nurses who treat gastrointestinal malignancies, including cancers of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreas, large and small bowel, stomach, esophagus and rare tumors.

Our mission is to deliver the highest quality patient care by providing the most advanced medical therapies and opportunities to participate in clinical trials, with the goal of improving survival and quality of life. Research scientists are working to find better therapies, as well as more accurate diagnosis and screening procedures to detect GI cancers in their earliest stages. Fellowship and residency programs are available to train future generations of gastrointestinal oncologists.

Gastrointestinal cancers are complex, which makes it essential to receive treatment from doctors who are experienced in treating them. Our GI cancer team is dedicated exclusively to treating these cancers, all day, every day.

Physicians meet regularly to discuss and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan unique for each patient.

Our team is able to provide a complete range of standard treatments, as well as specialized techniques including minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, precision-guided intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), combined approaches with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and novel experimental therapies offered through clinical trials.

Bone And Soft Tissue Oncology

Bone cancer, sometimes known as bone sarcoma or musculoskeletal cancer, destroys healthy tissue, often in the long bones of the arms and legs. Soft tissue cancer, also known as soft tissue sarcoma or musculoskeletal cancer grows in the muscle, fat, joints, nerves, tendons, cartilage and blood vessels. Frequently, tumors spread to the bone (metastasize) after originating from somewhere else. Common tumors the spread to the bone are metastatic carcinoma, myeloma, plasmacytoma and lymphoma.

Sarcoma treatment depends on a variety of factors, including the type of sarcoma; the tumor’s location, grade and size; your age; and whether it is a new or returning cancer. Sarcoma is treated with a combination of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Reconstruction of the surgical area typically takes place at the same time the tumor is removed.

Bone And Soft Tissue Oncology

Bone and soft tissue tumors are rare, and have a complicated mix of clinical behaviors. There are a variety of types and each one has its own particular treatment and patient outcome. The cause of most bone tumors is unknown. An injury can sometimes cause a tumor to start hurting; however, a bone tumor does not develop due to this injury. Injury can also cause a bone that is weakened by a tumor to fracture or break. Symptoms include pain, dull and aching discomfort and fever and night sweats.

The treatment of sarcoma generally requires a multi-disciplinary approach, involving experts in surgery, oncology (chemotherapy) and radiation, as well as orthopedic oncology, surgical oncology, neurosurgery and reconstructive or plastic surgery.

Treatment of bone sarcomas may require up to three months of chemotherapy prior to surgery with yet another course afterward, once the patient has been through the recovery process. Therapy for this type of cancer can take up to a year, assuming there are no complications and there is no need for additional procedures.

The primary treatment for soft tissue sarcomas is surgery. Chemotherapy can be used before surgery to shrink the size of the tumor, which increases the chance of removing the whole cancer. Chemotherapy is also used to treat a sarcoma when it has spread to other organs or other parts of the body. The decision to give radiation before or after surgery—or both—is made on an individual basis.

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive procedures are the mainstay of nearly all plastic surgeons’ work: covering all aspects of wound healing and reconstruction after congenital, acquired and traumatic problems, with aesthetic surgery playing a smaller but important part in their working week.

Reconstructive surgery is all about repairing people and restoring function. It is performed to repair and reshape bodily structures affected by birth defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma/injuries, infections, tumours and disease. Using a wide range of reconstructive techniques, plastic surgeons mend holes and repair damage primarily through the transfer of tissue from one part of the body to another. Their main aim is to restore the body, or the function of a specific part of the body, to normal.

Reconstructive surgery is used to treat a wide range of conditions which fall into the two following categories, congenital and acquired. Our plastic and reconstructive surgeons use the most advanced techniques to reconstruct and repair every part of the body. As a best cancer care center, we routinely reconstruct, repair and reattach limbs following traumatic injury. If you have been diagnosed with a potentially disfiguring medical condition, we are part of your medical team from your first diagnosis. We use our surgical expertise to correct congenital and acquired deformities. As a nationally ranked medical center, our surgeons partner with some of the most respected specialists in the country.
